"Close Up was probably one of the best weeks of my life. I recommend the trip for any one who is willing to walk around 3-4 miles a day. Probably my favorite part of the trip was the Lincoln Memorial and the MLK block where he gave the "I Have a Dream" speech. The new friends I met were awesome! They were from Montana, Oregon, Alaska, and Arizona! I recommend this trip to everyone and you will absolutely love it! The point is that week will be the best week of your life!!"
"My Close Up trip to Washington DC and New York was definitely one to remember. Each night, you do a workshop with a group of people and you talk about what you did that day, where you went, and what you learned. You are always walking around, rarely in a bus. I took about 19,000 steps a day! If I had to choose, my favorite part would be the Holocaust Museum in DC, Central Park in New York, and the Gettysburg/Arlington Memorial. You will want to go on this trip!"
What was the best part of your Close Up experience?
"I really enjoyed being able to see/go into historic monuments such as the Washington Monument and the Statue of Liberty."
"The Holocaust Museum was the best part just because I learned so much about it beforehand, and I took many things from that experience. It made me really think and feel about what the Holocaust really was."
"The best part of my Close Up experience was having fun with my friends and going to see all of our country's monuments."
"I thought the best part was sightseeing and workshop. You have a workshop group and every night you talk to them about what you saw and learned. And you meet new kids from different states."
"I thought so many of the places we visited were interesting and amazing! If I had to pick five, I really enjoyed visiting the Washington Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial, Phantom of the Opera, Top of the Rock, and the Statue of Liberty. I also had a lot of fun hanging out with friends!"
How will your experience at Close Up impact your future?

"I now have a deeper understanding of the workings of the government."
"It encouraged me to think about ways I can help my country and gave me a chance to see a part of the country I've never seen."
